Do you know the wonderfully sweet pleasure of leaning back and reveling in a good rest? That’s the gift God exemplified when He Himself rested on the seventh day. And this seventh day of rest wasn’t simply because He ran out of things to create. It was an intentional day that He ordained to send a message to us about how essential rest is.

How can most of us learn the value of rest? The first way is to broaden our horizon on what rest truly can be.

Rest can come as a 10-minute power nap, a 20-second virtual vacation or eight hours of wonderful sleep. Regardless of its length, rest offers energy for the burned-out and restoration for the broken. Rest replaces weariness, exhaustion and fatigue with peace, energy and hope. Maybe that’s why God showed us how important a whole day of rest could be. Knowing that we would work hard all week, He dedicated an entire day for us to plug into His power, a time when He could remove the distractions and fill us with His healing presence so we can be healthier people throughout the coming week.

SPIRITUAL THOUGHT

Rest is God’s personal way of saying, “Let’s take some time together, just you and Me.”

MY PRAYER

Lord, thank you for Your gift of rest. Help me to experience Your rest in all its various forms so that I can be refreshed and rejuvenated through You. Amen.
