What is the aim, the grand design of all our trust? What keeps us going even in the midst of difficult struggles? As Titus 2:13 describes, we are “looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.” Believers in Christ long for the day when He will return and finally set all creation free. But how can we trust that this wonderful time will truly take place? By trusting His promises:

“I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live.” ~ John 11:25

“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself: that where I am, there you will be also.” ~ John 14:2, 3

Notice what Jesus says: “I would have told you if it weren’t the case.” Yes, He will come back for us.

“So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.” ~ Hebrews 9:28

Jesus’ Second Coming is not for Him to deal with sin (He dealt with sin already on the cross), but to rescue those who are yearning to see Him. Those who place their trust in Him not only live better lives now, but will finally receive their reward. The Bible describes the Second Coming as seen by His followers.

“And it will be said in that day:
‘Behold, this is our God;
We have waited for Him, and He will save us.
This is the LORD;
We have waited for Him;
We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.’”
~ Isaiah 25:9

Life’s true conclusion has not yet appeared, yet we know that it will.

In November of 1996, a cyclone ravished the coast of India near Masalidippa, flooding villages and killing more than 1,000 people. In addition, 1,300 fishermen in their boats were reported missing. The grieving families looked out to sea for their fathers, brothers, and husbands, but what hope did they have? A day passed. Two days. Three days. Four days. The nation gave up the fishermen for dead.

On the fifth day, people on the beach spotted something on the horizon. A flotilla of 162 boats sailed home to a joyous, unbelievable welcome.

This is only a small picture of what will take place at Christ’s return. Don’t ever give up hope. Keep trusting in Him.
