Although we don’t know the exact date of Christ’s birth, we know with certainty that He was born and that His entrance into our world forever changed humanity’s relationship with God. During the Christmas season, even those who don’t typically think about spiritual matters become more open to learning about who God is and His plan for their lives. This creates precious opportunities for us to share God’s love with others and reflect deeply on the incredible gift of His presence.
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory,
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” – John 1:14
The Bible tells us the beautiful story of Jesus’ birth, revealing how God chose to fulfill His promise of salvation. “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us” describes how God’s presence came to earth in human form through Jesus Christ. This wasn’t just a historic event – it was the unfolding of God’s perfect plan to restore His relationship with humanity.
Today, over two thousand years later, we celebrate this remarkable gift of God’s presence. Yet amid the busy holiday season, it’s easy to overlook the profound truth that God’s presence remains the greatest gift we could ever receive. Through the principles of CREATION, we can experience God’s transformative presence in powerful ways during this season and throughout the year:
Choice: We can choose to create space in our schedules for meaningful encounters with God through Bible study and prayer. These intentional choices invite His presence into our daily lives and help us share His love with others.
Rest: The Sabbath is a reminder that God designed us to need regular rest and communion with Him. During this busy season, maintaining our commitment to weekly rest helps us experience His presence more deeply and share His peace with others.
Environment: Our surroundings can either enhance or hinder our awareness of God’s presence. Creating an environment that nurtures spiritual connection – through uplifting music, nature appreciation or simple moments of quiet reflection – helps us remain mindful of His constant presence with us.
Activity: Physical movement can become an act of worship when done with an awareness of God’s presence. A walk in nature appreciating His creation, serving others in His name or engaging in healthful exercise can become opportunities to experience His presence and share His love.
Trust in God: Mary and Joseph demonstrated tremendous trust when they accepted their role in God’s plan. During the holidays, trusting God with our concerns and following His guidance deepens our relationship with Him and opens our hearts to experience His presence more fully.
Interpersonal Relationships: God often makes His presence known through our connections with others. The Christmas season provides unique opportunities to share His love through acts of kindness, meaningful conversations about faith and genuine care for those around us.
Outlook: Maintaining a positive, Bible-based outlook helps us recognize God’s presence in both ordinary and extraordinary moments. The story of Jesus’ birth teaches us that God can work in unexpected ways – we simply need to trust His timing and purposes.
Nutrition: Even our food choices can become opportunities to honor God when we approach them mindfully. Sharing wholesome meals with gratitude and practicing healthy habits honors our bodies as temples of His Spirit.
This holiday season, amid all the activities and gatherings, take time to consider that God’s presence is the true gift that gives meaning to everything else. The beauty of God’s presence is that it’s not limited to any particular season. The same God who entered our world as a baby in Bethlehem promises to be with us always: “And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). His presence brings light to our darkness, hope to our uncertainties and joy to our lives.
As you gather with loved ones this holiday season, remember that the true gift of Christmas isn’t found in seasonal traditions but in the profound reality that God is with us. Through His presence, we find purpose, peace and the privilege of sharing His love with others who might be especially open to hearing about Him during this time of year.
May this season be filled with blessed opportunities to experience God’s life-giving presence and share His message of hope and salvation with those around you.
